Bormioli Pharma unveils €20 million furnace upgrade at San Vito plant (with video)

Bormioli Pharma inaugurated a new furnace and production lines yesterday (Tuesday) at its San Vito al Tagliamento plant in North-Eastern Italy.

The €20 million investment will allow, when fully operational, the increase of production capacity from 30t/day to 110t/day.

There is also possibility to add a third production line to extend the plant’s capacity to 150t/day.

A number of dignitaries from the local region joined Bormioli Pharma CEO, Andrea Lodetti (pictured), and senior staff to officially open the new plant.

The revamped and expanded plant features cutting-edge technologies in different areas of the glassmaking process.

It was designed to ensure a high operational flexibility and to allow to operate with different formats and production technologies.

In addition to high standards of energy efficiency, the plant now features a system of prevention and safety as well as an emission control mechanism of absolute excellence.

The pharmaceutical glassmaker implemented a plan to hire new resources, which resulted in an increase of about 50% in the workforce.

This enabled the company to hire about 50 workers, who have already been involved in glass manufacturing training sessions.

Mr Lodetti said: “The decision to invest in the renovation and development of our plant in San Vito responds to the company's growth plans and the need to improve our level of service, further reducing lead times and ensuring product availability even during periods of periodic maintenance of our production site in Bergantino.

“The construction of this plant further confirms the company's ability to improve continuously, through the integration and development of its technological skills on production processes.”

Bormioli Pharma recently acquired German company Remy & Geiser which specialises in closure and dosing systems as well as tubular glass vials.

Bormioli Pharma is based in Parma, Italy and was acquired by Triton financial investment group in November 2017.

The company produces about 5.5 billion pieces a year and employs about 900 people, 120 of which – when fully operational – are based in San Vito al Tagliamento plant.
