The closure of the plant, located in the suburb of Dolton near the Indiana border, will affect a total of 316 jobs.
AGP says it will continue to meet customer demands by utilising its remaining facilities across the US.
According to a notice filed with the state of Illinois, the company said: “Ardagh Glass Packaging-North America remains focused on enhancing its overall performance, while aligning its supply of high-quality, sustainable glass packaging with the demand from the food and beverage markets.”
The decision to shut the plant was influenced by market conditions, Packaging Dive has reported, citing an emailed statement.
The strategic move follows a pattern of closures by AGP, which included shutting down multiple sites in 2024.
Among these was a Seattle-based glass production facility, which serviced wine customers and was permanently closed in November after an earlier temporary shutdown.
With 37 facilities across North America, Europe, and Africa, employing around 14,000 people, AGP supplies sustainable and recyclable glass packaging.
The company’s facilities in the US feature advanced inspection and monitoring systems.
AGP supplies bottles to several American best-known brewers and provides many craft brewers with quality glass beer bottles across North America.
The company offers 17 colour options in North America and creates innovative glass packaging for brand differentiation.
