Wasser marsch! Die mit 6000 Quadratmetern größte Surfhalle der Welt hat in Düsseldorf ihre Tore geöffnet. Ab Montag können auch Besucher auf der Welle reiten.
In den alten Stahlwerkshallen auf dem „Areal Böhler“ ist mitten in der Stadt eine 160 Meter lange Beach-Club-Landschaft entstanden. Höhepunkt: ein 500 Quadratmeter großes Becken, in dem eine neun Meter breite und 1,60 Meter hohe permanente Welle erzeugt wird.
Der Strandclub hat bereits jetzt geöffnet: drinnen und draußen (insgesamt 2100 Quadratmeter) mit Baumhaus, Hängematten, Beachvolleyballfeldern, Bars, Restaurants, Musik und Feuerstelle. Vom Liegestuhl aus kann man auch bequem durch die verglaste Halle das Surf-Spektakel beobachten. Am Eröffnungswochenende zeigen dort Profis ihre Shows.
Das Wasser für das Erzeugen der Welle befindet sich in einem Kreislauf und wird immer wieder aufbereitet. Ein Prozess, der viel Energie benötigt. Die soll vor allem eine Solaranlage auf dem Hallendach mit 1000 Modulen erzeugen, die Welle außerdem für Wärmerückgewinnung sorgen.
Investiert haben die „Rheinriff“-Macher rund 10 bis 15 Millionen Euro.
