After months of preparation, construction and inspections, Pilkington North America’s Laurinburg, North Carolina, Float 1 furnace was lit for the sixth time. Pilkington North America is part of the NSG Group.
Marking this occasion, 50-year veteran Calvin Hodges had the honour of lighting the furnace. The photo above features Mike Woodhead (Assistant Plant Manager), Calvin Hodges (Maintenance Technician) and Chris Markotich (Plant Manager).
The photo below was taken when Float 1 was lit for the first time in April of 1973. Since it was initially built in 1973, Float 1 has been through five repairs in its 50-year history.
