Onyx Solar supplies its innovative technology to the modern Sea Towers complex located in the heart of Barcelona.
The Spanish company has supplied a total of 1,520 m2 of amorphous silicon photovoltaic glass integrated into the curtain wall areas of the building. Nearly 1,000 glasses with different sizes have been installed, featuring a triple laminated tempered glass for improved durability and a 12 mm air chamber that provides additional thermal and acoustic insulation. The average transparency allows building users to enjoy natural light.
Sea Towers is a residential and office complex located on Avenida Icaria, in the 22@ district, the main technological and digital hub of the city and one of the most active in the world.
Onyx Solar's photovoltaic glass has contributed to the building achieving WELL Gold and LEED Platinum certifications. The latter is the most prestigious international rating received by reference buildings and is only granted by the U.S. Green Building Council to the most sustainable and energy-efficient buildings. In fact, it is the 3rd building in Spain to reach these levels, with a 52% energy saving due to sustainable design and the use of renewable energies.
The construction of the complex was completed in June 2021 and managed by the investment fund Meridia Capital, one of the most prestigious Real Estate funds nationally. Ferrés Architects and GCA Architects were in charge of the building design, and Dragados acted as the builder.
This 29,000 m2 office asset, composed of 2 buildings, with NTT Data as its main tenant, has recently been acquired by Allianz Real Estate for 180 million €. This transaction is emblematic in one of the most sought-after areas of Barcelona and shows the added value of implementing sustainable measures in buildings.
